Our History
The story of Our Place @ Willunga Hill begins with family, tradition and a lifelong love of cooking.
Many years ago in Northern Italy, Enzo Clappis grew up in a family where food was at the centre of everyday life. As a young boy, he learned to make many dishes alongside his family in the kitchen — a tradition that was as much about time together as it was about the food itself.
Those early experiences shaped a lifelong appreciation for simple ingredients, patience in the kitchen, and the joy that comes from sharing meals with others.
His son Andy, passionate about food but eager to explore the world, set off on his own culinary journey through Europe, developing his baking skills and expanding his knowledge of traditional food and hospitality.
Eventually, the family’s path led them across the ocean to Australia.
After settling in Adelaide, their passion for food and entertaining continued to grow. The family opened one of the first restaurants in Adelaide to serve risotto, welcoming guests from all walks of life and sharing their love of authentic Italian cuisine.
Over time, the family dream evolved once again.
Led by Andy Clappis, alongside his father Enzo, his children, and now even great-grandchildren, the family set out to create something truly special — a place where people could gather, celebrate and experience heartfelt food in a beautiful setting.
What began as a simple vision — a little piece of Italy on top of Willunga Hill — has grown into one of the Fleurieu Peninsula’s most cherished dining and celebration destinations.
Inspired by Northern Italian traditions, the kitchen centres around handmade pasta, slow-cooked meats, freshly baked bread and recipes passed down through generations.
Wherever possible, ingredients are sourced from the family’s own property or from local producers, reflecting a deep connection to the land and the community.
Despite its growth and reputation, the heart of Our Place remains exactly as it began — a family kitchen where passion, laughter and hard work come together to create something special.
Every meal served here carries that story.
